FLAISHANS HEADLINES GROUP OF SEVEN MEN’S HOCKEY PLAYERS ON HOCKEY EAST ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The Hockey East Association announced Friday, June 6 that the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey program placed seven of its student-athletes on the 91-player Hockey East All-Academic Team.

Senior defenseman Brad Flaishans (Glendale, Ariz.) headlines the group as he became one of just four Wildcats to be chosen as a four-time Hockey East All-Academic Team selection, joining David Busch, Jason Krog and Chad Onufrechuk. Flaishans had a perfect 4.0 GPA in both semesters, which helped him earn the Top Scholar Athlete award and a spot on the six-player Hockey East Academic All-Star Team. Flaishans was also honored by the league as he earned “Distinguished Scholar” status given to those student-athletes, who achieved a 3.0 or better in each semester over four seasons.

Juniors Thomas Fortney (Webster Groves, Mo.) and Alan Thompson (Gilford, N.H.) garner Hockey East All-Academic Team status for the third-time in as many seasons, while first-year players Matt Campanale (Chester Springs, Pa.), Danny Dries (Lake Orion, Mich.), Greg Manz (Wayne, Pa.), and Stuart Fricke (St. Paul, Minn.) round out the list of UNH honorees. All seven players earned at least a 3.0 GPA in each of the two academic periods in which they actively competed.

The Wildcats officially kick off the 2008-09 season Saturday, Oct. 11 against WCHA foe Wisconsin at 7 p.m. at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. UNH will also host an exhibition game Saturday, Oct. 4 against St. Francis Xavier at the Whittemore Center at 7 p.m.
