With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 18-4-1, 13-2-1 in Hockey East play, while the Minutemen improve to 11-8-3, 8-6-1 HE.
The teams skated to a scoreless first period as both squads posted 12 shots on goal. Sophomore forward Cory Quirk got UMass on the scoreboard at 13:59 of the second period and freshman forward Will Ortiz added two goals at 2:29 and 10:24 of the third period to give UMass the victory.
The Minutemen outshot UNH, 38-27 for the game, including a decided 16-6 advantage in the second period.
Foster stopped 15 saves in the second period and 12 in the opening frame. Foster allowed the first goal of his Wildcat career after blanking his opponents in the first 172 minutes and 22 seconds of play.
