DURHAM, N.H. - Head coach Dick Umile of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey program announced the 2005-2006 schedule for the upcoming season on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wildcats open the season against New Brunswick at the Whittemore Center for an exhibition game on Saturday, October 8th. UNH officially opens the season the following weekend at the Maverick Stampede Tournament hosted by Nebraska-Omaha on Oct. 14-15.
The 'Cats will play the national runner-up North Dakota Fighting Sioux for a two-game set at the Whittemore Center on Oct. 21-22 to officially open the season at Towse Rink.
UNH opens Hockey East league play Oct. 28 vs. Massachusetts at the Mullins Center.
The Wildcats will once again play two games at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester -- Tuesday, Nov. 1 against Boston College and Saturday, Jan. 14 vs. Dartmouth in the fifth annual "Battle for the RiverStone Cup."
In other featured matchups vs. league rivals, UNH will play at Boston University on Nov. 11 and Feb. 17, and play host to the Terriers on Feb. 18 in Durham. The 'Cats will host Maine on Nov. 12 for a single-game at the Whitt and travel to Orono for a two-game series Feb. 3-4 at Alfond Arena.
The 'Cats will face Vermont for the first time as a Hockey East foe Dec. 2 at Gutterson Fieldhouse and Vermont will travel to Durham for a two-game series Jan. 6-7.
The final week on the season is a home-and-home series with the Eagles, which is a rematch of the combatants in the 2005 Hockey East title game. UNH will visit Conte Forum on March 2 and the 'Cats will play host to BC on March 4.
