ANN ARBOR, MICH.- Junior forward Darren Haydar (Milton, ONT.) led the No. 6 University of New Hampshire hockey team to a 7-3 victory over No. 16 Colgate University to take home the Ice Breaker Cup on Saturday night at Yost Ice Arena. Haydar finished the game with three points on the night and five total (3-2-5) for the tournament. Haydar recorded goals at 10:22 and 19:09 of the second period.
UNH also received scoring from sophomore forward Lanny Gare (Vernon, B.C.) who scored two goals consecutively at :49 seconds and 3:04. Junior forward David Busch (Toronto, ONT.) also posted two goals in the third period at 6:26 and 10:20. Sophomore forward Colin Hemingway (Surrey, B.C.) also chipped in with one goal at 4:12 of the third period.
UNH goalie Ty Conklin (Anchorage, AK) posted 15 saves, while Colgate netminder Jason Lefevre tallied 28 saves on the night. The UNH offensive arsenal put up 47 shots, while Colgate only managed 23.
Colgate opened the game with two goals by Scooter Smith at 12:01 in the first, while teammate Paul Kelley scored at 7:42 of the second session.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 pm at the University of Vermont.
