LOWELL, MA-- Corey-Joe Ficek scored two goals as UNH picked up a 4-2 win to complete a week end sweep of UMass Lowell in college ice hockey. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 12-2-1, 7-0-1 in Hockey East while UMass Lowell drops to 4-10-1, 1-7-1 in Hockey East.
The River Hawks jumped on the score board at 2:23 of the first period when Geoff Schomogyi took a pass from Ed McGrane and caught UNH netminder Ty Conklin out of position. Ficek would tie the game at 9:21 when he took a pass from Eric Lind and Jason Shipulski. The scored would remain tied at 1-1 until the third period when the Wildcats came out on fire.
Darren Haydar put UNH up 2-1 with his 10 goal of the season just 36 seconds into the period. Ficek would add his second goal of the game, and third of the weekend less than three minutes later to give the UNH a 3-1 lead. Kevin Bertram would cut it to 3-2 with a power play goal for the River Hawks at 9:44. Mike Sadowski then added an insurance goal for the Wildcats to make it 4-2 at 18:21 and that is where the game would end.
UNH outshot UML 33-29. Wildcat netminder Ty Conklin improves to 11-1-1 on the season while Cam McCorimack falls to 3-7-0.
UNH will return to action on Friday night when they travel to St. Lawrence University, while UML will travel to Clarkson for a game next Friday night.
