UNH Men's Hockey Shuts Out Ottawa, 5-0

DURHAM, NH -- The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team blanked the University of Ottawa 5-0 in an exhibition game before 4,192 fans at the Whittemore Center Saturday night.

Dan Enders put the Wildcats on the board with just over eight minutes to play in the first period for a 1-0 lead. Darren Haydar and Matt Dzieduszycki assisted on the goal. Sean Austin extended the Wildcats lead to 2-0 on a goal to the left side of the net. Lanny Gare and Corey-Joe Ficek assisted on the goal.

Mike Souza gave UNH a 3-0 lead in the third period on an unassisted goal at 2:56. Dzieduszycki scored with over three minutes left in the third period to give the Wildcats a 4-0 advantage. Colin Hemingway and Patrick Foley assisted on the goal. Jim Abbott scored with less than a minute left in the third period to close out the scoring 5-0. Austin assisted on the goal.

The two teams battled through a scoreless second period, with Wildcat goaltenders Ty Conklin and Matt Carney combining for 10 saves. Ottawa goaltender Paolo Della Bella stopped 11 shots in the period.

For the game, Conklin made nine saves and Carney stopped 9 shot. Della Bella tallied 38 saves in a losing effort.
