MEN'S BASKETBALL NOTES VS. CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY
DURHAM, N.H. – After two straight losses to open the 2006-07 men’s basketball campaign, the University of New Hampshire Wildcats turns its attention to Central Connecticut State University for a 12:00 noon match up in Lundholm Gymnasium.
    Both teams enter the contest with winless records. The Blue Devils (0-3) and Wildcats (0-2) are playing for the fifth time in the history of the two programs. CCSU holds a 3-1 advantage in the series, but the teams have not met since the 1999-2000 season when CCSU won 87-65 at home. The Blue Devils have won two straight in the series, the only two meetings vs. UNH by head coach Howie Dickenman. They also won 88-76 in the second game of the 1998-99 season.  Former UNH head coach Gibb Chapman led the Wildcats past CCSU, 97-82, for the program’s lone win against the Blue Devils.

SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Wildcats enter today’s contest with an 0-2 record to start the 2006-07 campaign. UNH opened its season at No. 15 Boston College on November 10 and were defeated by the Eagles, 86-47. Sophomore guard Tyrece Gibbs (Brockton, Mass.) registered a team-high 11 points. Senior co-captain Blagoj Janev (Sydney, Australia) posted eight points along with five rebounds, while junior forward Mike Christensen (Reston, Va.) registered eight points and four rebounds. Freshman forward Seth Price (Grove City, Ohio) notched four points and five rebounds in his collegiate debut.
    The Wildcats also suffered a heartbreaking 70-69 overtime loss to Franklin Pierce College on Monday. Christensen notched a career-high 22 points and Janev compiled 17 points. McGeary shot 4-8 from beyond the arc en route to a career-high 12 points in the loss.
    Today’s contest marks the return of senior co-captain Jermaine Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) who missed the first two games of the season. Anderson provides leadership on and off the court to a team that features seven newcomers. Anderson appeared in 26 games in 2005-06, while making 22 starts. Anderson was second in Division 1 free throw percentage last season. He also led the team in assists (79) and in steals (35) last season. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 21) when they travel to face non-conference foe Robert Morris University at 7:00 p.m.

SCOUTING CENTRAL CONNECTICUT: The Blue Devils also enter today’s game with a winless record (0-3). Junior guard Tristan Blackwood and senior guard Javier Mojica combined for 37 points and seven 3-pointers, but the Blue Devils fell to Davidson on Monday, 91-64.  The game was the third in three days for CCSU at the John Thompson Challenge held on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Blue Devils previously fell to a Big Ten powerhouse Michigan (60-40) and to Eastern Michigan (76-69).
    Mojica leads the team in points, averaging 15.0 per game, while Obie Nwadike has registered a team-high 26 rebounds, averaging 8.7 per game. Jemino Sobers has record an impressive seven blocks in the three games. As a team, CCSU is shooting .351% from the field, while shooting at a .66% clip from the charity stripe.
