BOSTON – The America East conference announced Wednesday that the University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team was picked fourth in the preseason poll as voted on by the conference’s coaches.
UNH will be looking to improve upon last season’s 12-17 record which was their best mark since the 1995 season.  The Wildcats were bounced from the America East Tournament in the semifinal round by eventual America East Champion, University at Albany.
The ‘Cats will be led by Preseason All-Conference selection Blagoj Janev (Sydney, Australia), a senior forward who averaged 14.4 points per game last season.  Senior guard Jermaine Anderson (Beverly, Mass.), junior forward Mike Christensen (Reston, Va.) and sophomore guard Tyrece Gibbs (Brockton, Mass.) round out the returning starters for the Wildcats.  Three other returning lettermen and the seven newcomers to the program will help to add much needed size for the ‘Cats in their push for the conference championship.
The Wildcats open the season Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to take on Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College Eagles before opening at home Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. when they play host to Division II and Northeast-10 member Franklin Pierce College.
