Scouting the Wildcats (4-11, 1-2 AE)

New Hampshire recently fell in heartbreaking fashion to Vermont on January 9 by a score of 62-60. Senior Blagoj Janev posted a career-high 31 points as he registered 11-of-11 from the field, while hitting 5-of-5 from the three-point land. Jermaine Anderson notched 12 points in the loss. UNH has won three of its last six games, including a 73-68 road win over rival Maine on January 6... The win snapped a seven game losing streak against the Black Bears as junior forward Mike Christensen (Reston, Va./Flint Hill) posted a career-high 28 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists...senior co-captain Blagoj Janev (Sydney, Australia/Institute of Sport) and Jermaine Anderson (Beverly, Mass./Phillips Exeter) each delivered 17 points apiece for the Wildcats...UNH has three players averaging double-digits in scoring with Janev and Christensen averaging 13.7 ppg and Anderson at 13.4 ppg...UNH shot an impressive 21-of-28 from the charity stripe, including a 15-of-19 performance during the second half as Christensen made 10-of-11 on the night...freshman forward Seth Price (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) notched five points and four rebounds off the bench in the win...UNH fell to defending America East champion University at Albany, 69-52, on January 3 to open conference play...Anderson posted a team-high 18 points, while Janev and Christenson posted 13 and 11 points respectively.

Scouting the Hawks (8-6, 2-0 AE)

Hartford  won back-toback games last week to open the America East season... The Hawks pulled out a 62-60 victory at Maine on Wednesday before returning home to hand Boston University an 80-75 defeat on Saturday in double overtime... The last time Hartford started the conference slate with two wins was during the 2002-03 campaign (that team started 3-0)... The win over Boston U. was the first since January 29, 2002, snapping a nine-game losing streak against the Terriers.... The Hawks overcame an 18-point deficit with 11:27 to play in the second half... Freshman Joe Zeglinski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) led the way with 20 of his game- and career-high 22 points coming in the second half and overtime periods... He also pulled down a career-high nine rebounds... Sophomore Jaret Von R osenberg (Mission, Texas/Sharyland/ Collin County) also played a big part in the win, scoring a career-high 20 points in the contest, including Hartford’s final six points in the second overtime... Senior Bo Taylor (Reston, Va./Paul VI Catholic/Bishop O’Connell/South Lakes) led the Hawks at Maine with a game-high 15 points and team-high seven rebounds... He leads the team on the season at 14.6 ppg.

THE SERIES:   The Hawks hold a 29-15 advantage in the all-time series when facing the New Hampshire Wildcats. UNH won two of three against the Hawks during the 2005-006 campaign, including a 66-62 win in the America East Quarterfinals.  Mike Christensen led the Wildcats into the semifinals with 22 points. In the last 15 meetings, the Wildcats hold a slight 8-7 advantage dating back to the 2000-2001 season.

A key matchup for this evening’s contest between the Hawks an Wildcats comes at the forward position. UNH junior forward Mike Christensen and Hartford’s Bo Taylor both lead their respective teams in scoring as the two both hail from the town of Reston, Virgina. Both players attended different high schools as Christensen competed at Flint Hill, while Taylor attended South Lakes. Both players have enjoyed similar success in the America East Conference. Christensen recently recorded a career-high in points with 28 in a 73-68 win over Maine on January 6. He also leads UNH in rebounding, pulling down 5.7 per game. Taylor, a 6’5” senior forward, also leads his team in scoring (14.6 ppg) and in rebounds (5.0 rpg).

Charity Points
    Senior co-captain Jermaine Anderson is  25-of-28 (89.3%) from the charity stripe this season to lead the America East.  During the 2005-06 campain, Anderson shot 68-of-74 (91.9%) from the foul line, placing him second in all of Division 1 basketball.

 Janev Continues to Move Up On
All-Time Scoring List
    Senior co-captain Blagoj Janev posted a career-high 31 points in a 62-60 loss tp Vermont on January 9. He has now posted 1,160 career points, placing him 12th on UNH’s  all-time scoring list.

Lundholm Losing Streak
    The Wildcats fall to 0-4 at Lundholm Gymnasium after a stinging 62-60 loss to Vermont on Tuesday. UNH has lost two overtime games to Harvard and Franklin Pierce. UNH has lost by a total of just 12 combined points in all four games.The record for most overtime games played in a single season is four, which was set by the 1989-1990 team as they posted a 3-1 record.

 Janev Posts Career Day
    Senior co-captain Blagoj Janev delievered his greatest  offensive effort on Tuesday as the forward shot 11-of-11 from the field, 5-of-5 from beyond the arc and 4-of-5 at the  charity stripe en route to scoring a career-high 31 points. His previous career-high was 24 points.

Anderson Assists
    Senior Jermaine Anderson is fifth in the America East with 44 assists (3.67 apg) and recently eclipsed 200 career assists when he posted six against Elon on December 29.

Odom Closes in one Two Milestones
    Junior forward Brandon Odom is just two points shy of 200 career points and just one rebound shy of 100 for his career Odom averages 2.0 ppg and 1.8 rpg for the Wildcats.

From Waaay Downtown
    UNH has recorded the second most three-pointers in America East with 114, averaging 7.63 per game. Blagoj Janev leads UNH with 25 from beyond the arc. The Wildcats are also ranked third in three-point field goal percentage (33.1%).

America East On The Rise
    With just four regular-season non-conference games remaining, America East squads have sailed past last year’s non-conference win total. America East teams are currently 48-61 (.440) in 2006-07, compared to just 33-69 (.324) a season ago. The conference is on pace to register 50 regular-season non-conference victories this campaign, which would be the most since the league recorded 52 in 1994-95 when there were also nine teams in the league.

Threes Company
    The Wildcats are one of three America East members to have three scorers averaging double digits. Senior Blagoj Janev  averages 14.9, while Jermaine Anderson (13.4 ppg) and Mike Christensen average 13.1 ppg respectively.
