PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Despite their best effort, the University of New Hampshire Wildcats could not keep up with the size and speed of the Providence College Friars, as UNH fell, 75-51, Wednesday night in men's basketball action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
Blagoj Janev (Sydney, Australia) led the Wildcats with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 shooting from the free throw line. Tyrece Gibbs (Brockton, Mass.), making his first career start, contributed ten points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots.
Four players scored in double figures for Providence (2-0), led by Randall Hanke with 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field as well as nine rebounds. Donnie McGrath hit three three-pointers on his way to 15 points, while Weyinmi Efejuku contributed 11 points and a game-high five steals.
New Hampshire (0-3) continues its season-opening road trip Saturday, Nov. 26, at Colgate. Game time is set for 1 p.m. The Wildcats play their first five games on the road before hosting Long Island University in the home opener on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m.
