Scott Weitzell added to New Hampshire basketball staff

DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire men's basketball coach Phil Rowe announced today the hiring of Scott Weitzell as an administrative assistant for the 2002-03 season.

Weitzell, a native of the New Hampshire seacoast area, coached high school and middle boys basketball at Newmarket for the last 19 seasons, 10 at the middle school level and the last nine with the high school team. During Weitzell's tenure the Mules varsity team reached the playoffs in the six of nine seasons.

Last season Weitzell was honored by the New Hampshire Coaches Association as the Class M Coach of the Year after leading Newmarket to the No. 2 seed in the Class M state tournament and a 17-3 overall record. "We are extremely fortunate to have coach Weitzell join our staff for the 2002-03 season," coach Rowe said. "He is one of the most respected high school coaches in the region. Scott will bring his organizational and community relations' excellence to our program. There is no doubt his enthusiasm for the game will permeate throughout our program."

Weitzell's responsibilities include community relations, coordination of the men's basketball Cage Club, Alumni Affairs, the Big Brother Program, team budgeting and fundraising and organizing player and coaches' clinics.
