DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire men's basketball player Shejdie Childs and the University at Albany's Jamar Wilson were named America East Rookies of the Week for the week of Jan. 6-12 it was announced today by America East.
Childs (Wynnewood, Pa./ Friends Central) averaged 14.5 ppg., 5.5 rpg. and 4.5 apg. as the Wildcats split their last two games with a win against the University of Maine (74-64) Jan. 8 and a loss on the road against Albany (61-58) Jan. 11. Childs' 17 points against the Black Bears was a career-high for the freshman point guard as he went 8 for 11 from the field.
Childs scored 12 against Albany, dished out a career-high seven assists and pulled down a career-high six rebounds. For the two games combined, Childs shot 65 percent from the field (13 for 20) and gave out nine assists. Childs leads the team in scoring at 9.1 ppg. and is shooting 62 percent from the field for the season (36 for 58).
The Wildcats take on Brown University at Lundholm Gymnasium tonight at 7 p.m.
