DURHAM, N.H. - Junior forward Austin Ganly (Yarmouth, Maine) was named America East Player of the Week on Monday after netting a career-high 34 points in the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team's 96-89 overtime victory over Dartmouth last Saturday.
With his Wildcats (1-1) trailing by three with six seconds left in regulation, Ganly was fouled by a Big Green defender while attempting a game-tying three-pointer. Ganly made all three of his free throws to send the game into overtime. Ganly scored 10 in overtime, hitting three field goals and four free throws along the way.
The previous career high for Ganly was 28 vs. Hartford (March 3, 2000) in the first round of last year's America East tournament. The last time a UNH player scored 30-plus was Ethan Cole's 30 against Hartford on Jan. 27, 1999.
Ganly scored 17 in a 80-78 defeat at Army in the season-opener on Nov. 22. Ganly was 6-for-10 from the field and 3-for-5 shooting the trey. Ganly is averaging 25.5 ppg. thru two games this season.
UNH's home-opener is Wednesday (7 p.m.) when it host Stony Brook at Lundholm Gymnasium.
