DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team begins its 2000-01 campaign Wednesday on the road vs. Army (7 p.m.) at West Point, N.Y.
After splitting their two home exhibitions, a 79-78 win over G.T. Express and a 91-84 defeat to St. Francis Xavier, the Wildcats will look to start their season off on a winning note against the Black Knights (0-1).
Junior Austin Ganly (North Yarmouth, Maine) notched a game-high 20 against the Express while sophomore Jeff Senulis (Grand Island, N.Y.), who missed all of last season with a back injury, chipped in with 19. Junior Assane Faye (Dakar, Senegal) finished with a game-high 17 rebounds. Against St. Francis, Faye had a team-high 19 points while Senulis registered nine points and eight rebounds in 15 minutes on the floor.
UNH is 0-3 lifetime vs. the Black Knights, the last meeting being Jan. 2, 1976 in a 81-63 Army victory.
Army got a head start on the Wildcats by beating Coast Guard in its season-opener on Sunday, 80-72. Forward Charles Woodruff was the catalyst for the Black Knights with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Army posted a 5-23 record last season.
WMUR-TV Channel 9 will cover Saturday's interstate matchup of the Wildcats vs. the Dartmouth men's basketball team at the Big Green's Edward Leede Arena. Tipoff is at 1 p.m. WMUR will not broadcast the UNH vs. Dartmouth women's basketball game as originally scheduled.
