DURHAM, N.H. -- University of New Hampshire men's basketball Coach Phil Rowe announced today that senior Chris Brown (Boston. Mass.) has opted to use his final year of eligibility and will return as captain of the 2001-02 Wildcats.
A 6-4 forward, Brown co-captained the Wildcats to a 7-21 record last season, more than doubling their win total from the year before when they went 3-25. Brown, who redshirted his first year (1997-98) at UNH, was the fourth leading scorer for the Wildcats last season with 7.1 ppg. and led the team in rebounding with 4.0 rebounds per game despite sitting out the first four games of the season with a torn tendon in his right ring finger.
During his sophomore year, Brown was third in America East in rebounding with 8.2 rpg. and was second on the Wildcats in scoring with 10.7 ppg.
Brown will be one of three Seniors next season for the 'Cats, including Austin Ganly (N. Yarmouth, Maine), UNH's leading scorer last season with 13.3 ppg., and Assane Faye (Dakar, Senegal).
