DURHAM, N.H.-- Freshman guard Marcelle Williams (Teaneck, N.J.) of the University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team was named America East Rookie of the Week for the Second time this season after averaging 15.6 ppg in three contests.
Williams, who was also named conference rookie of the week in late Nov., is one of only two players to receive the honor twice this season and could be considered a top candidate for Rookie of the Year honors.
Highlights from the week for Williams included a pair of 21 point scoring efforts vs. both Columbia and Towson. He also dished off four assists vs. the Tigers.
Williams, who leads the Wildcats in scoring with an average of 15.6 ppg. has scored 20 points or more five times this season and has scored in double digits in nine out of a possible 11 games.
He is presently ranked eighth in America East in scoring, ninth in the league in three-point field goal percentage (.386) and ninth in free throw percentage (73).
Marcelle and the Wildcats will be returning to action tomorrow night when the squad entertains powerful Delaware in an America East matchup. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium.
