DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire gymnastics team has been selected third in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) preseason poll, announced Saturday. The votes were conducted among the eight league head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

The Wildcats, 2003 EAGL champions, earned 35 points to place behind unanimous preseason No. 1 North Carolina State (49 points) and Maryland (39). UNH registered a 14-10 record and a No. 31 national ranking last season and competed in the NCAA Regional Championships at the University of Arkansas to mark its 32nd postseason appearance in Goodspeed's 33 years at UNH.

Five-time EAGL champion North Carolina collected 34 points for fourth place in the poll. Pittsburgh (28 points) was picked fifth in the poll, followed by George Washington (16), Rutgers (12) and Towson (11), which makes it return to EAGL for the first time since the 2004 season.

The Wildcats open league competition at home against Rutgers on Sunday, Jan. 6. The meet begins at 1 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium. For more information on the UNH gymnastics team, visit www.unhwildcats.com.
