DURHAM, N.H.—Junior University of New Hampshire gymnast Taryn LaFountain (Utica, N.Y.) earned East Atlantic Gymnastic League Specialist of the Week honors on Tuesday after posting a pair of first-place finishes at the Fox Run Invitational on Feb. 14 at Lundholm Gym.
LaFountain led all gymnasts on balance beam with a 9.825 and then posted a career-best 9.9 in the floor exercise to lead all gymnasts in the four-team meet. It marked the second time that LaFountain earned EAGL Specialist of the Week honors in 2009.
The Wildcats took first place overall at the Fox Run Invite, posting an impressive team score of 194.875.
LaFountain presently leads the league on balance beam with an individual RQS of 9.810. She is also fourth among EAGL gymnasts in the floor exercise with an RQS of 9.78.
LaFountain and the Wildcats return to action this weekend with a pair of road meets. The first is at Maryland on Fri, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m., and the team competes again on Sat., Feb. 21 at Penn State w/Bridgeport and Rutgers starting at 7 p.m.
