UNH GYMNASTS IMPROVE TO 8-1 WITH QUAD MEET VICTORY

    DURHAM, N.H. –
The University of New Hampshire women’s gymnastics team now stands at an outstanding 8-1 on the season after defeating Brown University, University of Bridgeport and University of Alaska-Anchorage, Friday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. The Wildcats earned their best team score of the season, 193.625, while Alaska finished a distant second with a score of 190.075, Bridgeport notched third with a team score of 189.20 and Brown finished fourth with a final mark of 181.60. UNH also finished 1-2-3 in every event.
    UNH started out strong on their first event on the night, vault, as sophomore Helena Diodati (Scarborough, Maine) continued her dominance on vault, by taking first place for the fifth consecutive meet, thanks to a score of 9.725. Last week’s EAGL Rookie of the Week Chelsea Steinberg (Ridgewood, N.J.) nabbed second place with a score of 9.70 and junior Justine Turner (Salem, N.H.) tied for third place with a mark of 9.675.
The Wildcats were led by Diodati again on bars as she notched a 9.850. Senior Rebekah Porter (Valparaiso, Ind.) earned second place with a mark of 9.775. After posting a 9.70, sophomore Diane Grey (Spring, Texas) tied for third place.
    On beam sophomore Taryn LaFountain (Utica, N.Y.) notched first with a high score of 9.775, as Diodati earned second with a personal record of 9.725. Sophomore Keeley Smith (University Place, Wash.) and junior Melissa Cesar (Valencia, Venezuela) each posted a 9.675 to tie for third place.
    In only her second collegiate meet, freshman Andie Sablosky (Springfield, N.J.) tied for first on floor with senior Fairen Plummer (Louisville, Ky.), as each scored a 9.80 in the event. In just a week, Sablosky made a huge improvement, as her previous best on floor was a 9.60, earned during last week’s meet. Smith rounded out the event after earning a 9.750 to finish in third place.
The Wildcats return to action on Feb. 9 when they are the host of the Fox Run Invitational. Featured in the meet are #14 ranked Penn State, William & Mary and Yale. The Fox Run Invitational is set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Whittemore Center. Tickets can be purchased at www.wildcats.com.
