College Park, Md.—The University of New Hampshire women’s gymastics team, on the heels of its season-opening victory over Rutgers, swept all three EAGL Conference weekly honors on Tuesday. Leading the way was sophomore all-arounder Justine Turner (Salem, N.H.) who took first-place in the all-around with an impressive score of 38.925.
    In addition, Turner took first place on the vault with a 9.825 and was the high-scorer in the floor exercise as well with a judgement of 9.85. This marked her first attempt as an all-arounder during her young career at UNH.
    As UNH head coach Gail Goodspeed predicted, this year’s freshman class is skilled and talented and played a key role in the team’s 191.775-190.124 victory.
    Freshman Diane Grey (Spring, Texas) was named EAGL Rookie of the Week after she posted a 9.750 on both the vault and bars to earn second-place finishes. She also competed in the floor exercise for the ‘Cats and recorded a 9.250 effort.
    Freshman Taryn LaFountain (Utica, N.Y.) also made a strong impression in her first collegiate gymnastics meet and was awarded EAGL Specialist of the Week honors. LaFountain posted a score of 9.725 to win beam and she also placed fourth overall in the floor exercise with a score of 9.6.
    All three gymnasts will return to action on Fri., Jan. 12 at Rhode Island, along with Rutgers and Yale. The team’s next home meet is Sat., Feb. 4 vs. Denver. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium.
