DURHAM, N.H.-- The University of New Hampshire women's gymnastics team is in the midst of preparing for its annual Fox Run Invitational, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21, starting at 7 p.m. at the Whittemore Center. Featured teams at the meet include Auburn, Temple, Yale and UNH.
Auburn enters the invitational following a record-setting victory. The Tigers, 3-3 overall, beat out the No. 5 University of Florida Gators 197.00-196.9 on Feb. 13. Sophomore Natica Johnson won the meet with a school-record score of 39.525 in the all-around.
Temple ended last weekend's Towson Invitational in second place. Its overall team score of 189.825 bested Rhode Island's 189.375, but wasn't enough to defeat the host's score of 194.925. Temple's season-best score is 190.70, achieved on Jan. 21 vs. Rutgers.
Despite a loss to Rutgers on Feb. 14, Yale posted its highest score of the season with a 192.25. Yale captain Jamie Green and freshman Suchitra Paul tied for first place in the all-around with scores of 38.475.
The Wildcats (6-3) continue to average in the 195 range as a team and are coming off a second-place finish at Michigan State, where the squad scored an impressive mark of 195.125.
UNH has been led in the all-around this season primarily by Amanda Hall (Bremerton, Wash.). Her all-around score of 39.45 recorded on Jan. 31 against Pittsburgh tied the UNH record, which was previously set by Hall in 2003. Her efforts won her the title of EAGL Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 3 for the second time this season. Hall has also won the all-around three times out of possible six meets.
