FIELD HOCKEY NAMES FOUR RECRUITS TO JOIN TEAM IN FALL 2010
DURHAM, N.H. -- Robin Balducci, 19th-year head coach of the
University of New Hampshire field hockey team, has announced that
four student-athletes who will begin attending UNH in Fall 2010
will also be joining the University's field hockey program.
The quartet of Mackenzie Joyce (South Pomfret, Vt.), Katie Walborn (Selinsgrove, Pa.), Tori Welch (East Hampstead, N.H.) and Meg Williamson (Cos Cob, Conn.) will join three scholastic players -- Megan Bozek (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), Meg Callahan (Lititz, Pa.) and Casey Pohlmeyer (Millersville, Md.) -- who had previously signed a National Letter of Intent with UNH field hockey in February 2010.
Joyce, who lettered in field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse at Kimball Union Academy, was selected to the Region 1 team at the National Futures Tournament in 2009. Joyce was named to the Boston Globe All-Star Team as a senior, when she recorded 14 goals and 12 assists as a forward. She helped lead Kimball Union to the NEPSAC championship three consecutive years (2007-09) and finished her three-year career with 46 goals and 22 assists. She also played for the Team Vermont club team and finished second in Pool A at the 2009 National Indoor Tournament.
Walborn is a back out of Selinsgrove High School, where she led the Seals to a Pennsylvania state runner-up finish as a senior in 2009. The team had advanced to the quarterfinals the previous two seasons. Walborn also played for the Pa. Power club team.
Welch, who lettered in field hockey and outdoor track & field at Pinkerton Academy, has competed in the U.S. Futures program since 2006 (Region 1 team in' 08 and '09) and was selected to the Futures Elite program in 2008 and 2009. She was named to the 2009 National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic Team as well as the All-America regional team. Welch's other accolades as a senior included All-State First Team, Union Leader All-Star, Eagle Tribune All-Star and Coaches Award. The forward/midfielder led the Astros to a Class L runner-up finish in both '08 and '09 and was named the team's Rookie of the Year in '07. Welch has also played for the Seacoast United club team since 2006.
Williamson, a letterwinner in field hockey and lacrosse at Greenwich High School, competed on the Region 3 team at the U.S. Futures as well as in the Futures Elite program in 2009. The midfield/forward was named MVP in '09 and was also the Scholar-Athlete of Fairfield County as a senior, when she helped the Cardinals win the Connecticut Class L state championship. A four-year stater at Greenwich, Williamson tallied four goals and three assists last season.
The UNH field hockey team finished the 2009 season with a 12-7 overall record and advanced to the America East semifinals for the third consecutive year.
