FRATES EARNS AMERICA EAST FIELD HOCKEY ROOKIE AWARD

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – Whitney Frates (Woodstock, Vermont), a freshman forward on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was honored as Rookie of the Week by America East on Monday. Frates received the same distinction Sept. 8.

Frates extended her point-scoring streak to six games with a goal against Dartmouth College on Oct. 8 and an assist on the game-winning goal Oct. 11 at Maine. The six-game streak is the longest by a Wildcat since 2003, when then-sophomore Katie White had a seven-game streak.

Frates’ goal against DC helped the Wildcats erase a two-goal deficit and leveled the score, 2-2, just 1:46 into the second half. Frates set up UNH’s fourth goal of the game, which came in the 47th minute and gave the ‘Cats a two-goal advantage, at Maine.

Frates has played in all 14 games and been in the starting lineup each of the last four. She has a team-high .389 shooting percentage and is tied for the team lead in assists with five. Frates ranks second in points (19) and is tied for second in goals (seven).  In the America East conference, Frates is fourth in points per game, fifth in assists per game and sixth in goals per game.

New Hampshire (6-8 overall, 1-1 America East) returns to action Oct. 17 at home against the University of Vermont. Game time at Memorial Field is 4 p.m.
