BOSTON -- Sarah Shute and Holly Wiles scored first-half goals to lead the 20th-ranked Boston University field hockey team to Saturday afternoon's 3-0 victory against the University of New Hampshire at MIT's Jack Barry Field in the America East conference opener for both teams.
UNH is now 3-7 overall while BU improved to 7-3.
The Terriers took a 1-0 lead at 8:12 when Shute scored from a scramble at the left post and extended that advantage to 2-0 with 3:12 remaining in the opening half on Wiles' tally. It was the sixth goal of the season for both players.
Lauren Alfaro closed the scoring when she redirected a shot by Pam Spuehler into the cage at 61:24.
UNH goalkeeper Margaux Shute (Norridgewock, Maine) recorded five saves and BU counterpart Erin Predinger stopped two shots, both in the first half.
BU finished with a 17-4 shot advantage and a 6-4 edge in penalty corners.
New Hampshire returns to action Oct. 2 (3 p.m.) at Dartmouth College. The next Wildcat home game is Oct. 14 vs. Maine. Game time at Memorial Field is 3 p.m.
