DURHAM, N.H.-- Robin Balducci, 14th-year head coach of the University of New Hampshire field hockey program, announced that Brooke Bercari (Bordentown, N.J.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the UNH Wildcats in the 2005 season.
Bercari, the eighth student-athlete to sign with UNH this month, is a senior at Bordentown Regional High School, where she letters in field hockey and track and will be the first athlete from BRHS to play Division I collegiate field hockey. She has played in the USFHA Futures program for four years and competed at the Elite level in 2004. Her high school honors included All-South Jersey Second Team in 2003 and 2004 as well as Burlington County First Team All-Star in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Bercari broke the school's single-season goal record with 17 in her senior year, and she also had 10 assists. On the track, she is a part of four record-holding relay teams - the 4x400 meter, 4x800, sprint medley and distance medley.
"A player of Brooke's level is just another indication of the overall depth of talent in our 2005 freshman class," Balducci said. "She has played at an extremely high level throughout her high school career she will have the ability to impact our program immediately."
New Hampshire has advanced to the America East Championships each of the past three seasons and to the postseason in 12 of 14 years under coach Balducci.
