New Hampshire field hockey falls to Providence, 4-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Katie White (Glens Falls, N.Y.) gave the University of New Hampshire field hockey team a 1-0 lead but Providence College stormed back to record a 4-1 victory in Friday afternoon's non-conference game at Hendricken Field.

UNH,which had won two consecutive games to level its record, is now 4-5 overall. PC improved to 6-3.

White scored her team-leading fifth goal of the year at 21:35 of the first half but the Friars tied the game before halftime on a Katharine Lary tally at 29:01. Melissa McGow struck at 40:53 and 50:54 to give Providence a 3-1 lead, then Amy Phillips scored with 16:09 remaining to cap the scoring.

UNH goalkeeper Christine Buckley (Walpole, Mass.) finished with nine saves, including six in the first half, and Brittany Schneider (Middletown, Md.) was credited with a defensive save. PC goalie Meaghan Moran stopped eight shots.

New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 30 vs. fourth-ranked Duke University. Game time at UNH's Memorial Field is 12 p.m.
