DURHAM, N.H. - Marcie Boyer (Dillsburg, Pa.) and Lizzy Duffy (Oak Park, Ill.), both of whom are midfielders on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, were selected to compete in the 2002 NFHCA Division I North/South Senior All-Star game, the NFHCA announced Friday. The game will be played Nov. 23 (7:30 p.m.) at the University of Louisville.
Both players have been instrumental to the UNH's success this season, as the Wildcats are 11-5 overall and in first place of the America East standings at 3-0. The team's .688 winning percentage ranks 13th in the nation and the 'Cats are 14th in offense (2.57 goals per game).
Boyer, the captain of the Wildcats, is currently ranked eighth in the nation in points (33) and 13th in points per game (2.063). She is 12th in the country in goals with 13 and 20th in goals per game (0.813). Boyer leads the team in both of those statistics as well as assists (seven). Her season highlights include a career-high six points (2-2-6) at Rhode Island and five points (2-1-5) in the next game at Yale. She has two other two-goal games to her credit this season in addition to a pair of game-winning goals.
Duffy, who transferred to UNH after spending two years at North Carolina, ranks third on the Wildcats in both goals (four) and points (10). She scored a career-high three goals when New Hampshire broke the school records for goals in a game and widest margin of victory in a 13-1 win against Albany on Oct. 13. Another season highlight came Sept. 28 when she scored the game-winning goal in the team's 1-0 overtime victory vs. Providence.
Boyer will leave UNH as one of the most prolific scorers in the 28-year history of the program. She is fifth on the all-time points list (82) as well as fifth in goals (32) and ninth in assists (18). Boyer, a 2001 selection to the Northeast Region All-America First Team, has been named to the NFHCA All-Academic Squad twice and was the 2001 America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year for field hockey.
Duffy, a 2001 NFHCA Northeast Region All-America Second Team selection, has six goals and six assists for 18 points in two seasons as a Wildcat.
New Hampshire returns to action Oct. 26 (1 p.m.) at Northeastern University.
