New Hampshire field hockey upends Syracuse, 2-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Jen Stamp (Tyngsboro, Mass.) scored with 3:51 remaining in the second overtime to lift the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Saturday afternoon's 2-1 victory against Syracuse University.

The Wildcats (1-2) took a1-0 lead at 24:53 of the first half when Marcie Boyer (Dillsburg, Pa.) scored her third goal in as many games. Christine Buckley (Walpole, Mass.) made three first-half saves, including one on a penalty stroke, and the 'Cats took that one-goal advantage into the second half.

Syracuse (1-1) tied the game in the 63rd minute when Lindsay Peirson converted a pass from Meredith Gettel.

Stamp produced the game-winning goal at 86:09.

Buckley finished with seven saves, including two in the first overtime session. SU goalie Audrey Latsko was also credited with seven saves, three of which came in the overtime sessions.

New Hampshire will play game No. 500 in the history of the program Sept. 8 vs. Stanford (at Syracuse University). The Wildcats are scheduled to play their home opener on renovated Memorial Field on Sept. 28 (1 p.m.) vs. Providence College. New Hampshire's Sept. 10 game vs. Uconn, originally scheduled to be in Durham, will be played at Harvard University at 7 p.m. vs. Providence College.
