UNH Field Hockey Defeats Northeastern 1-0

DURHAM, N.H. - In a rematch of the 1998 AMERICA EAST Championship game, senior midfielder Kristin Iarrusso (Southwick, Mass.) scored the game winning goal with 2:58 remaining in the second half to lift University of New Hampshire over Northeastern University 1-0 Sunday. The Wildcats improve to 8-2 and 3-0 in AMERICA EAST play as Northeastern drops to 3-6 and 2-1 in the conference.

Strong defense and goaltending by both teams kept the game scoreless through the first half and most of the second half until Iarrusso scored her 10th goal of the year off an assist from freshman Marcie Boyer (Dillsburg. Pa.) for the 1-0 lead.

In the first half, Northeastern had two scoring opportunities, but Wildcat junior goaltender Amy Agulay (London, Ont.) made two key saves and junior back Kelly Stowe (Topsfield, Mass.) made a defensive save to hold off the Huskies.

Agulay tallied five saves for the Wildcats and freshman netminder Kathleen Madaus stopped four shots for the Huskies.

UNH travels to Dartmouth for a 3:30 p.m. game Wednesday. They will take on Old Dominion University Sunday, October 10 at 1 p.m. at the University of Connecticut.
