BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Connecticut's Nicole Castonguay recorded a hat trick as the Huskies defeated the nationally ranked University of New Hampshire field hockey team 7-2 Tuesday night at Northeastern.
The Huskies scored four unanswered goals in the first half for a 4-0 advantage. Castonguay got the Huskies on the board in the first half with a goal off a corner to go up 1-0. Laura Klein found the back of the cage less than a minute later to extend the lead 2-0. Allison Sharpe and Castonguay each scored goals with less than eight minutes remaining in the first half for a 4-0 lead.
Wildcat senior Tara Zailo (Fairfield, N.J) scored her first collegiate goal in the second half off an assist from junior Tami Street (Kingston, N.Y.) for a 4-1 Huskies lead. Connecticut went on to score three unanswered goals by Katie Stevens, Klein and Castonguay before UNH junior Jaime Ehret (Old Greenwich, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season for a 7-2 Husky lead.
Wildcat junior goalkeeper Amy Agulay (London, Ont.) made 13 saves for UNH. Connecticut goaltender Danielle Vile had three saves in the win.
The Wildcats stand at 4-1-0 on the year. They travel to Harvard University on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and return home Sunday to take on the University of Rhode Island at 1 p.m.
