Providence, R.I. - The UNH field hockey team opened up the season with a win on the road, defeating Providence College 3-2.
Providence led 2-1 at the half, with UNH's lone goal scored by freshman foward Marcie Boyer (Dillsburg, Pa.). The Cats' two second half goals were scored by sophomore foward Jessica Russell (Harisville, R.I.) and junior foward Tami Street (Kingston, N.Y.) who netted the game winner with 26:55 remaining.
Junior goalkeeper Amy Agulay (London, Ontario) picked up 11 saves, playing the entire game.
UNH's defense was strong in the second half with Providence only managing four shots on goal to UNH's eight, two of which went for goals.
The Wildcats play their next game against Central Michigan on Sunday the 5th. The next home game is Friday the 10th at 3:30 p.m. vs. Yale.
