Football's Smith Headed to NFL Combine

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Jared Smith (Greencastle, Pa.) of the University of New Hampshire football team has been invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine, an invitation-only event that will be held Feb. 23-26 in Indianapolis and be televised on the NFL Network.

Smith, a defensive tackle, is scheduled to work out with defensive linemen and linebackers Monday, Feb. 25. The NFL Combine is a four-day job evaluation in which players perform a series of mental and physical tests for the league's top executives, coaches, scouts and medical personnel in advance of April's NFL Draft.

Smith, who competed in the Texas vs The Nation All-Star Game in Allen, Texas, on Feb. 2, was decorated with numerous accolades following his senior season at UNH. The 6-foot-3, 292-pound DT earned a berth on the College Sports Journal FCS All-America Team, The Sports Network All-America Third Team, the Beyond Sports Network All-America Third Team, the All-CAA First Team, the College Sports Madness All-CAA First Team, ECAC All-Star Team and the All-New England Team. Smith started 11 games and compiled 40 tackles, 26 solo, with a team-leading 10 tackles for loss (0.91 per game), which ranked fifth in the CAA. The Greencastle, Pa., native, who was tabbed to the inaugural Senior Bowl Watch List in August, tied for the team lead with four sacks, forced two fumbles, recovered a fumble, collected four pass breakups and tallied a team-high three blocked kicks.

No. 13/13 UNH qualified for the NCAA Division I Football Championship for the ninth straight season, the longest active FCS streak, and has been ranked in the top-25 for 126 straight weeks, the longest streak in the nation.
