Spears, Steriti win weekly football honors

DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire running back Nico Steriti (Toms River, N.J.) and tight end Harold Spears (Perkasie, Pa.) were each feted Monday for their individual performances in the Wildcats' 44-21 victory against Georgia State on Saturday at the Georgia Dome.

Steriti, a sophomore who ran for 126 yards and scored three touchdowns, was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week, and Spears, who set career highs with six catches for 94 yards and a TD, was tabbed the College Football Performance Awards National Tight End Performer of the Week.

Steriti, the CAA's leading rusher (91.7 yards/game), exceeded the 100-yard rushing mark for the third time in four weeks while scoring on carries of seven yards (second quarter) and 34 yards (fourth quarter). The 5-foot-11, 200-pound running back added his first career TD catch, an eight-yard reception in the opening stanza.

Spears, a sophomore, hauled in a 26-yard reception on the game's opening drive. The 6-foot-4, 254-pound tight end, who entered the game with six career catches for 70 yards in 10 previous games, enjoyed a breakout performance by leading the Wildcats in both departments Saturday.
