PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of New Hampshire football team is ranked 10th in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Preseason Top-25, which was released Monday. The Wildcats, who finished 2010 as the No. 7 team in the nation, received one first-place vote.
UNH has been ranked in the poll for 97 consecutive weeks, dating back to Sept. 13, 2004, the longest active streak in the CAA. The Wildcats posted an 8-5 mark last season, qualified for the NCAA Championship tournament for a nation-leading seventh straight season and advanced to the quarterfinals for the sixth time in that span.
The Wildcats were preseason No. 10 in 2010, were ranked as high as No. 6 (Sept. 6) and set a school record by defeating five ranked opponents during the campaign.
Defending national champion Eastern Washington (90 first-place votes) is the preseason No. 1 team. Appalachian State (14), William & Mary (20), Georgia Southern (11) and national runner-up Delaware (2) round out the top 5.
UNH kicks off its season at Toledo, an FBS school, Thursday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. The Wildcats play their home opener against Holy Cross on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 12 p.m. For season or individual game tickets, call (603) 862-4000 x 5 or visit www.unhwildcats.com.
