RICHMOND, Va. – University of New Hampshire middle linebacker Matt Evans (Hanover, Mass.) was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, making it back-to-back weeks the sophomore has been feted for the honor and the third straight week a Wildcat player has been recognized as the league's top defensive performer.

Evans was awarded the Bill Knight Trophy as the MVP of the inaugural Colonial Clash at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 23, registering a game-high 13 tackles, snaring his fist career interception and forcing a fumble in ninth-ranked UNH's convincing 39-13 defeat of No. 12 Massachusetts before a CAA-record crowd of 32,848. Evans and the New Hampshire defense limited UMass to just 43 rushing yards, more than 150 yards off the Minutemen's average per game entering the weekend.

Evans, the CAA's leader in overall tackles (93) and solo stops (47), was named the CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 18 on the heels of the Wildcats' 28-17 victory at then-No. 6 James Madison. That week he returned a fumble 17 yards for a touchdown, compiled a career-high-tying 14 tackles and forced a fumble.

UNH safety John Greer was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 11 after notching two interceptions, including a 40-yard pick-six, in the Wildcats' 17-0 shutout of then-11th-ranked Richmond at Cowell Stadium.

Following a bye week, UNH (5-3, 3-2 CAA) will seek to extend its 13-game home winning streak when it tangles with fourth-ranked William & Mary at Cowell Stadium on Nov. 6 at 12 p.m. Tickets are available HERE, by calling (603) 862-4000, extension 5, or by visiting the Whittemore Center Box Office weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
