UNH FOOTBALL CLIMBS TO NO. 5 IN FCS COACHES POLL

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On the heels of their season-opening 33-3 victory over Central Connecticut State on Saturday at Cowell Stadium, the University of New Hampshire football team has climbed four positions to No. 5 in this week's Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll. 

The fifth-ranked Wildcats (1-0) trail only Montana, the new No. 1 team, Southern Illinois, Appalachian State and Villanova, which tumbled from the top spot after losing, 31-24, at Temple on Friday night.

The Grizzlies received 16 first-place votes and 662 points overall after dismantling Western State, 73-2, while the Wildcats tallied 518 points. The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) led all conferences with seven teams in the top 25. Joining No. 4 Villanova and No. 5 UNH are Richmond (No. 7); James Madison (No. 11); William & Mary (No. 14); Delaware (No. 17) and Massachusetts (No. 20).

The FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and is administered by the Southern Conference.

New Hampshire takes on FBS No. 15 Pittsburgh (0-1) at Heinz Field this Saturday, Sept. 11, beginning at 1 p.m. Tickets in the designated UNH section are still available for $30 each by calling (603) 862-4000 x 5 or visiting the Whittemore Center box office Tuesday or Wednesday from 10 a.m-5 p.m.
