WILDCATS PICKED SECOND IN FIRST SPORTS NETWORK TOP 25 POLL OF 2006

PHILADELPHIA - The University of New Hampshire football team was picked No. 2 in the first "Sports Network" I-AA Top 25 poll of the 2006 season.

Leading the way in the No. 1 spot was defending I-AA national champion Appalachian State with 68 first-place votes and 2,306 points. UNH checked in with 14 first-place votes and 2,153 points after finishing fifth in the final Sports Network poll of 2005.

In all, five teams for the Atlantic 10 Football Conference were listed in the top 25 including UNH, James Madison (8th), Massachusetts (10th), Richmond (15th) and Delaware (16th). The Wildcats will be playing all four of the other Atlantic 10 top 25 teams in 2006.

UNH was recently picked to finish first in the North Division of the Atlantic 10 and James Madison was selected as the top Southern Division squad in the annual conference coaches poll. UNH was picked No. 1 by "Street & Smith's" and "Lindy's" preseason magazines.
