UNH FOOTBALL RANKED SEVENTH IN FIRST "SPORTS NETWORK I-AA TOP 25 POLL"

PHILADELPHIA-- The first "Sports Network I-AA Football Poll" was released today and the University of New Hampshire was ranked No. 7 after completing the 2004 campaign at No. 6.

The No. 7 spot is the highest ever recorded by a Wildcat football team in the poll and UNH makes its first appearance in the preseason poll since 1997.

In all, the Atlantic 10 Football Conference had six teams in the top 25, tying the all-time best mark for the conference set back in 1995.

Defending national champion and Atlantic 10 Champion James Madison was the favorite to win the national title with 49 first-place votes. UNH was the second-highest ranked team in the Atlantic 10 in overall poll points.

UNH completed the 2004 season with a 10-3 overall record and UNH won the North Division of the conference with a 6-2 mark. The Wildcats defeated Georgia Southern in the first round of the NCAA I-AA tournament for its first-ever NCAA Tournament win and advanced to the NCAA I-AA Quarterfinals.

The UNH players have arrived on campus and will kick off practice with the team's annual media day on Wed., Aug. 10.
