DURHAM, N.H.-- Junior punter Josh Polgar (Rutland, Vt.) was named Co-Atlantic 10 Special Teams Player of the Week for his outstanding efforts in UNH's strong showing vs. Division I-A Central Michigan. UNH was defeated by just one TD, 40-33.
One of the keys to UNH taking a halftime lead, tying it up 26-26 after three quarters, and then keeping it close the entire game were the booming punts of Polgar, who averaged nearly 50 yards per punt in the contest (49.0) His seven punts in the game traveled 343 yards and he pinned the Cheppewas inside the 20-yard line four times.
His longest of the afternoon was a 62-yarder, seven yards shy of his career-high of 69 yards, which he recorded vs. Delaware. last season. Polgar is the UNH record-holder for punting average in a season with an impressive mark of 41.2 yards per punt in 2002.
After two games this season, Polgar is threatening to shatter his previous mark, as his season average stands at 46.2 yards per boot.
