DURHAM, N.H.-Out of respect for the victims of this week's national tragedy and their families, both the University of New Hampshire and Hofstra University have mutually decided to postpone this Saturday's football game until Oct. 27, the open date on both team's original schedules. The announcement was made today by the presidents and athletic directors of both institutions.
"As events continued to unfold this week it became evident that to play this weekend's contest at Hofstra would not have been appropriate," said UNH athletic director Marty Scarano. "By mutual agreement both institutions have moved the contest to Saturday, Oct. 27. The game time will be determined at a later date."
However, UNH will hold three events this coming weekend on campus. The UNH women's volleyball tournament will be played in its entirety on Saturday, Sept. 15. The first game features UNH vs. Syracuse (10 a.m.). The second game (Syracuse vs. Rhode Island), will be played at 3 p.m. And, the third contest (UNH vs. Rhode Island) will take place at 8 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The women's field hockey game vs. Rhode Island will be played as originally scheduled on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. on Memorial Field.
Finally, the men's and women's tennis teams will not play on Friday (Sept. 14), The National Day Of Mourning, but will compete this weekend vs. Rhode Island, either on Saturday or Sunday. A date and time for the match will be released in the near future.
