Olympics: Andrew Morehouse

I am excited to represent the US Nordic Ski Team in Pyeongchang this upcoming February as part of the coaching/service staff supporting athletes at the games. As a service technician, I will be responsible for managing athletes skis, testing wax and base structure, and preparing skis for competition. In this role, I work side by side with the coaching staff and athletes to make decisions that can directly influence race day performance.
My time at UNH has had a great influence on my path towards these Olympic games. Having the opportunity to be part of an energetic, fun, and supportive team led by Cory Schwartz, and supported by the UNH athletic department, instilled a love and passion for athletics that continues today. In fact, Cory taught me many of the nuances of waxing skis while I was an athlete and those lessons provide the foundation for the work I will be doing at the Olympics this coming year. I am very proud to be able to represent UNH and our nation at the Olympic winter games and feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of such a cohesive and dynamic team. It was the many conversations and memories made while on four hour runs, or six hour bus rides that helped motivate me to reach for the highest level of the sport of Nordic skiing and it was the role modeling and mentorship of Cory that inspired me to continue to pursue athletics as a coach.
Having a healthy balance between academics and athletics was a necessity when I was looking at colleges as a high school athlete. Likewise, having grown up in a small town, I knew that a tight-knit community or team would be important for my success. At UNH I found the perfect balance of academics and athletics combined with a Nordic ski program that stressed the importance of teamwork and healthy lifestyles. It is the time with my teammates at UNH that I miss the most from my college years.
As I look forward to the Olympics in February, my goals are focused on providing the highest quality race service that I can. This will involve many hours of testing wax, preparing skis, studying weather patterns, and skiing with the athletes. If all goes well, the US Nordic team has a great opportunity to make history with their first ever Olympic medal!
