DURHAM, N.H. – With the game tied at 8-8, Alexa Smith scored the game winner for the Hawks as the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team fell to Monmouth, 10-8, on Monday at Bremner Field.
Senior Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) posted two goals and one assist for three points for the Wildcats, while seniors Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) each scored two goals. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead with goals by Schafer and Wooters, but a goal by Alexa Smith with 22:40 left in the first half made it a 2-1 contest.
- Then sophomore Michele Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Wooters gave UNH a 4-1 lead with 19:57 left. After a goal by Nicole Ceraso cut the UNH lead to 4-2, Northrup responded by finding the back of the net.
- Alexa Smith netted a free position goal for the Hawks, but a tally by junior Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.) gave a UNH a 6-3 advantage at the half.
- After Northrup scored the first goal of the second half, the Hawks posted two straight goals to make it a 7-5 contest with 26:56 remaining.
- With 17:06 left, Schafer scored her second goal of the game, but the Hawks would then post five straight goals for the 10-8 victory. Â

- Senior goalie Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) made nine saves as she played the first 53:33, while sophomore Amanda Gottlieb (Canton, Conn.) posted one in 6:27. Riley Brager tallied 14 saves for the Hawks.
- The Wildcats outshot the Hawks, 31-22.
- UNH picked up 17 ground balls, while Monmouth secured 13.
- The Wildcats won 15 draw controls and the Hawks posted five.
