Lax Team Named an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad
DURHAM, N.H. – Amy LeBel (Charlton, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was named to the 2017 IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday. UNH was named a 2017 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad.
LeBel was also named to the Academic Honor Roll in 2016. In order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater, whereas teams must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the year.
LeBel, a three-time member of the America East All-Academic Team and four-time honoree on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll, earned a bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering: Municipal Process this past May with a 3.98 cumulative GPA.
The senior defender started all 17 games and ranked second on the team in caused turnovers (13), including three consecutive games with two CTOs. LeBel was also credited with 18 ground balls, including a season high of three three times, and nine draw controls. She scored her first career goal – for her first career point – against UMBC and tallied her only career assist vs. Boston University. LeBel's season highlights included three GBs and two CTOs in a 10-7 win against UMass Lowell.
The UNH women's lax team also earned conference recognition for its academic excellence. Earlier this month, America East announced that a league-best 86 percent of UNH's women's lacrosse student-athletes made the 2017 Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll for recording a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the Spring 2017 semester. The lax team helped New Hampshire place a league-best 75 percent of its student-athletes on the Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll. Lacrosse also led the way for UNH to claim the America East Walter Harrison Academic Cup for the third consecutive year in 2016-17; the University's GPA of 3.31 marked the best in the 22-year history of the award.
