"We want to continue the tradition of honoring former UNH basketball players at our golf tournament," said Herrion. "The first year we honored Al McClain and Billy Pappas and last year we honored Wayne Morrison and Robin Dixon. We are extremely happy to honor Keith Dickson, class of '79, and Dan Nolan, class of '84."
Nolan ranks second in free-throw attempts (547), third in rebounds (826) and steals (145), fourth in free-throws made (304), fifth in field-goal percentage (53.8 percent), seventh in field-goals made (477), ninth in rebounding average (8.1) and 11th in scoring (1,258) all time in program history. With a total of 47 wins in his four-year career, Nolan was instrumental in the team's upgrade from nine wins in 1981-82 to 16 wins in 1982-83.
Dickson sits fourth in assists (361), fifth in free-throws made (298), 12th in field-goals made (452), 12th in minutes played (3,287) and 14th in scoring (1,202) all time in program history. After graduating from New Hampshire, his career flourished as a coach, as well. He's been the head coach of Saint Anselm College for 31 seasons with an all-time record of 595-319 which is also an all-time record for the program. His coaching victories are second among New England coaches and 10th all time in Division II. At 595 wins, Dickson ranks fifth among active Division II coaches. He was named Northeast 10 Coach of the Year four times and was inducted into the Saint Anselm's Hall of Fame in 2003.
"Both Keith and Danny had terrific basketball careers here at UNH and are ranked high in a lot of statistical categories," said Herrion. "Keith has gone on to have a terrific coaching career at St. Anselms College and has established himself the past 31 years as a top Division II coaching in the country. We're looking forward to having them both at our golf tournament."
UNH secured its second straight 20+ win season in 2016-17 with a 20-12 record overall and a 10-6 mark in conference play. The 'Cats secured a spot in the America East Playoffs semifinal round for the second straight year but eventually fell to champion University of Vermont. UNH is one of three teams in the Northeast with 19+ wins the past three seasons.
