Miller Scores Career-High Three Goals in 10-5 Loss at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Devan Miller (Bristol, R.I.) scored a career-high three goals but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 10-5 by Fairfield University at Rafferty Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Miller scored her three goals on three shots and was also credited with two ground balls and one caused turnover. Devon Croke (Norwell, Mass.) tallied two goals and two draw controls. Hope Kissick (Cohasset, Mass.) finished with an assist, three ground balls and two draw controls.
Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) made six of her nine saves in the second half. She was also credited with a team-high four ground balls and a caused turnover.
Fairfield counterpart Caleigh O'Connor stopped 10 of 14 shots on goal in 57 minutes, 16 seconds. Amy White played the rest of the way and allowed one goal. Brooke Gallagher led five multiple-point scorers with three points, all on goals.
UNH moves to 0-5 and Fairfield is 2-3.

GAME RECAP
- Lily Crager scored goals at 26:09 and 19:57 of the first half, then Scarlett Sulliman and Riley Hellstein scored goals 61 seconds apart—at 13:52 and 12:51 –to build a 4-0 lead the Stags would never relinquish.
- Miller potted an unassisted goal 69 seconds later to trim the deficit to 4-1 at 11:42.
- Alex Fehmel reestablished a four-goal lead at 8:31and Gallagher scored the first of her three goals at 7:15 to close the first-half scoring and send Fairfield into halftime with a 6-1 lead.
- The remainder of the first-half stats were almost even. The shots were level at 10 and turnovers at seven, while UNH had the slight edge in ground balls (8-6) and the home team had a 5-3 advantage in draw controls.
- Hellstein opened the second-half scoring at 23:13, but the Wildcats closed within 7-3 on consecutive goals by Miller at 20:13 and 15:20.
- Fairfield responded with back-to-back goals at 12:56 and 5:23 to push the lead back to six goals, 9-3.
- Croke scored goals 17 seconds apart at 2:44 and 2:27 to close the gap to 9-5 and UNH's Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) won the ensuing draw control, but the 'Cats lost the ball on a turnover 30 seconds later to stall the comeback bid.
- New Hampshire pulled Clancy in favor of an extra field player with 1:29 remaining. The Stags sustained possession, however, and scored with 39 seconds left to cap the scoring.

- Miller is the only 'Cat who has recorded a point all five games this season. She has four multiple-point games, including three multiple-goal efforts.
- Croke has tallied a point in 4 of 5 games with four multiple-point performances, including three multiple-goal games.
- Kissick entered the season with one career point. She has two points the past three games with a goal at UConn (Feb. 26) and assist at Fairfield.
- UNH went 0-3 on its three-game road swing.
