First Wildcat Football Academic All-Americans Since 1984
DURHAM, N.H. – Two members of the University of New Hampshire football team, senior Kyle Reisert (Plymouth, N.H., First Team) and graduate student Nick Marino (Hudson, N.H., Second Team), were named Thursday to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Division I Football Team, which honors top student-athletes nationally for their combined athletic and academic performances.
This marks the third and fourth Academic All-America honorees in UNH football history, respectively, as Reisert and Marino follow in the footsteps of former offensive tackles John Driscoll (1952, First Team) and Dave Morton (1984, First Team).
Reisert, who had junior eligibility this season, became the fourth Wildcat student-athlete to earn Academic All-America First Team distinction (Driscoll, Morton, Laura Rose Donegan-2016 Women's Track/XC). The mechanical engineering major with a cumulative 4.00 grade point average is a three-time member of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and a two-time CAA Academic All-Conference honoree who was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma in 2017. In six games as a starting defensive end this season, Reisert tallied 10 tackles (five solo) and two pass breakups before a leg injury ended his season Nov. 11.
Marino, a safety, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, graduating summa cum laude (3.86 GPA) in December 2016. The University Honors Program Presidential Scholar has compiled a 4.00 GPA as a graduate student studying for a master's degree in mechanical engineering with a concentration in fluid dynamics. Marino saw action in all 14 games, collecting nine tackles and an interception, which he returned 33 yards in a win against Bryant on Sept. 30. The three-time member of the CAA Academic All-Conference Team and CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honors Society, and he is co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Reisert and Marino are the 19th and 20th CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in UNH history; 10 of the 20 recipients have been feted since 2016, including six student-athletes in 2017. The complete list is below:
