INDIANAPOLIS – Graduated senior Tori Forrest (Powder Springs, Ga.) of the University of New Hampshire volleyball team has been nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.
The 2015-16 America East Woman of the Year finalist finished her career as one of three UNH athletes in program history to record 1,000+ kills (1,124) and digs (1,054). She was a part of the team's three straight conference titles and was named All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team her sophomore, junior and senior seasons and Commissioner's Honor Roll every year since her freshman campaign. The Georgia native was named the team's Most Valuable Player at the year-end banquet and was also one of two recipients of the UNH Paul College Student Excellence Award, recognizing graduating seniors who have shown overall excellence in academics, leadership, service and character. Forrest didn't just stop there, she was very involved with the community as well. She was a member of the Athletes Intervarsity Leadership Board and helped run UNH's Leadership Camp.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
The pool of school honorees marks the largest in the 26-year history of the award. Of the nominees for the national award, 231 competed in Division I, 117 competed in Division II and 169 competed in Division III athletics. The nominees also represent 21 different women's sports, and 127 of the nominees competed in more than one sport in college.
The Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will then choose the top 30 honorees – 10 from each division. From the top 30, the selection committee determines the top three honorees from each division and announces the nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then chooses from among those nine in October to determine the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year.
