DURHAM, N.H. – Head coach Marc Hubbard of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team announced Thursday the signing of two student-athletes that will play with the program in 2016, Kyle Amon (Capetown, South Africa) and William Picoux (Lorient, France).
"We are very excited about Kyle and William joining us mid-year," said Hubbard. "It is a great opportunity for them to get assimilated to not only the team but our university life before preseason starts in August. We expect these players to fill immediate holes left by graduating seniors. Kyle and William have both come from great pedigrees and will add a lot to our team culture. We are very excited that they chose to be Wildcats."
Amon, a 5-foot-9-inch back, will be a graduate student at UNH after playing at Northwest University Soccer Institute in Mafikeng, South Africa. There, he received his Bachelor's degree in Public Administration while playing soccer for three years. The left-foot Amon also played at the Varsity Cup and was named the 'Man of the Match' in the game. He also played for the University South African Association National Team.
Picoux, a 5-9 midfielder, comes to Wildcat Country after playing two years at Limestone College, a NCAA Division II program located in Gaffney, S.C. As a freshman, Picoux started 15 of 16 games played and tallied five goals along with four assists for 14 points. Two of his goals were game winners. He helped his team to a Conference Carolinas Regular Season title the same year. As a sophomore in 2015, Picoux started all 21 games played and notched a pair of goals and five assists for nine points. He is a two-time Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll student-athlete and was tabbed a member of the Conference Carolinas All-Conference First Team.
"With Kyle and William, we have added a lot of technical ability to our spring group and we feel that everyone involved on the roster right now, has the ability technically to handle how we want to play at UNH going forward," added Hubbard. Training will flow a lot better and we can offer some higher-level exercises that allow for us to improve our speed of play in the final third. We look forward to seeing how this group evolves as we look to complete a very large incoming class for Fall 2016."
