Going Up: Concrete Pouring Under Way In Stadium

A couple of cement trucks rolled onto the construction site for the new UNH Stadium early on Thursday morning.
They started pouring concrete into forms at the Bremner Field corner of the new stadium just after 8 a.m. and in less than an hour had put down their 10 cubic yards of product per truck – some 80,000 pounds of concrete total.
The Stadium is heading upwards. Concrete pouring will be a major focus at the project site for the next six weeks or so.
"We're creating the foundation of the building," said Eric Sage, acting construction coordinator for contractor PC Construction. "It's a very important piece of the project. Once the foundation is complete, it kind of brings the building out of the ground. This will be the footprint. Another milestone is when steel construction is completed."
Steel is scheduled to begin going around the end of August and that process should last about 10 to 12 weeks.
"Things will start rolling a little quicker as you come out of the ground," Price said. "With concrete, they will pour and wait 24 hours and then strip and take the forms off and then keep hopscotching the forms down the line."
The trucks are due back on Monday and the pouring pace will soon begin to pick up, said Mark Brewer, foreman on the site for MAS-CON of Laconia, one of the largest commercial masonry and concrete subcontractors in the state.
"Once we get our system going, we should be pouring every other day," Brewer said. "The first ones are always the slowest."

The Wildcats start the season with three straight road games.
They open at San Jose State, an FBS team, on Thursday, Sept. 3 with a game at 10 p.m. Eastern time. They play at Colgate on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. and at Stony Brook on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.

San Jose State is coming off a rough season. The Spartans evened their record at 3-3 with a 27-20 overtime win at Wyoming on Oct. 18.
But then they lost their last six games to finish 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the Mountain West Conference. They were 6-6 overall and 5-3 in their first year in the league in 2103.
San Jose played in the Western Division of the league with Fresno State, San Diego State, Nevada, Hawaii and UNLV.
Boise State led the Mountain Division of the Mountain West with a 12-2 overall mark and 7-1 record in conference. Colorado State, Utah State and Air Force are in the Mountain Division and each won 10 games overall. Wyoming and New Mexico also play in the Mountain Division.
UNH was 12-2 overall last year and went 8-0 to win the outright Colonial Athletic Association title. The Wildcats played in the NCAA FCS tournament for a nation's-best 11th straight season and advanced to the playoff semifinals for the second consecutive year.
