Wingate Tallies Goal, Assist as Men’s Soccer Defeats UMass Lowell, 3-1

Team Remains Unbeaten at 7-0-2
LOWELL, Mass. – Junior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team recorded a goal and an assist as the Wildcats defeated the University of Massachusetts Lowell Saturday afternoon at Cushing Field.
New Hampshire remains unbeaten on the year as they improve to 7-0-2 and to 1-0-0 in America East play. Lowell's record evens out at 5-5-0 overall and to 0-1-0 in conference action. Seniors A.J. Albers (Eagan, Minn.) and Connor Pauley (Londonderry, N.H.) also scored for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats got off to a quick start as Albers recorded his third goal of the season in the 8th minute of play to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead over the River Hawks. The play started when junior co-captain Wingate sent a free kick on net. The attempt bounced off the post and Albers found the rebound and buried it for the score.
The River Hawks responded in the 15th minute as Wuilito Fernandes notched the equalizer. Guilherme Rodrigues initiated the play as he sent a cross into the box. Jay Marchand headed the attempt to Fernandes to was on the back door to score.
Senior co-captain Andrew Chaput (Manchester, N.H.) tallied the next shot on goal for either team in the 42nd minute of play, but River Hawk keeper Austin Kroll made the save. Freshman Alex Valencia (Tracy, Calif.) made a last bid attempt in the first half with a shot with 24 seconds left, but Kroll made the save and the half ended tied at 1-1.
The Wildcats held a 10-1 shot advantage in the first frame, five of which were on goal.
The Wildcats began the second half with a plethora of offense as they fired four shots in succession, starting with freshman Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) and junior Karl Frisk (Molndal, Sweden) who both had a pair of shots blocked. Arling fired another shot in the 63rd minute that was just wide of the net while senior Jimmy Petruccelli (Newfields, N.H.) fired a shot in the 65th minute that was saved by Kroll.
The River Hawks nearly got on the board in the 74th minute of play as Marchand fired a shot on the Wildcat net, but senior keeper Ryan Carpenter (Newmarket, N.H.) came up with the save to

Pauley netted an insurance goal for the Wildcats with 50 seconds left in the second half, his second of the season. Kroll came out to challenge the play, but Pauley played it around him and then fired a shot into the empty net.
At the end of the match, the Wildcats prevailed for a 3-1 victory. The Wildcats outshot the River Hawks by a total of 22-4, eight of which were on goal to Lowell's two. Carpenter made one save on two shots faced in the game as his record improves to 6-0-2. Kroll's record falls to 5-5-0 as he made five saves on eight shots faced.
